The Moon Shows Midnight
Hurry my Princess, the time has come.
The moon shows midnight
And everyone before us has already gone.
No one left to fill the space,
To occupy the time for a little longer.
You are mine, by fate and experience.
Tonight it is you I dine.
My lips have been waiting to drink your river.
I can not hold back my quenches,
I crave you as you do chocolate.
It is unavoidable, unexplainable, unforgettable,
Destiny if you will, I would, I am,
Or at least I want to be very badly.
But kind to you, I would touch you with the touch.
You know the one;
The one that feels so right underneath my hand,
The one which makes me who I am
Apart from your past memories.
No more mistakes, just simple connection.
We fit, or will, I promise.
I found you because you were lost,
I sought you because I was.
The time has come,
The moon shows midnight.
Close your eyes, my lips will tell you a story
Until sleep leads us together by the hand
Unto forever or the sunrise.

“The one that feels so right underneath my hand,” These lines made me think of when someone loves you so much that when you hold their hand it makes them melt like chocolate. I don’t know why you wrote underneath instead of some thing clearer, but it makes little difference. The tone of the poem is very loving and thankful. An example of the tone would be” I found you because you were lost, I sought you because I was.”; these lines convey the feeling you have of getting back together with somebody and you’re very thankful for doing so.
“My lips have been waiting to drink your river.” This line is a metaphor, and it means that you have been waiting a long time to be with and kiss that person. I like this poem, especially the first few lines; it started the poem with a adventurous mood. Although it’s a good poem, I would like to see your poetry on a different subject than love. It gets kind of repetitive after a while. Since I am the first to comment on this poem, I cannot comment on anybody else’s comment. But if the commentator said this was a poorly written poem, I would have to disagree. =)
I think that this poem is talking about a guy finding his one true love. That he wishes to be with her for the rest of his life. In the line “I crave you as you do chocolate” he wants her as much as a girl would want chocolate. I do like this poem a lot for it reminds me of myself. I know who I’d like to spend my life with, and it in a way reflects how I feel. It is reflecting how one would feel when they think they have found their love that they wish they would be with for the rest of their lives. Several lines show that he wants to kiss her, hold her hand and never leave her side. The tone in the poem is a happy and relieved one, for he is happy to love someone, and relieved that he does not have to keep searching for her. The line “Close your eyes, my lips will tell you a story” has the figurative language of personification, because lips cannot tell a story themselves.
I agree with Ryan with what he said, ““The one that feels so right underneath my hand,” These lines made me think of when someone loves you so much that when you hold their hand it makes them melt like chocolate.” Those lines also make me think of someone who cares very much about you, that’s not just a friend or family.
It seems the poet is trying to look for his true love, the love that he wants to be together with her. The lines, "It is unavoidable, unexplainable, unforgettable,
Destiny if you will, I would, I am,
Or at least I want to be very badly."
is saying how he loves her a lot that he think they met by fate or some strong force that brought them together. That it is a experience the poet can never forget because the moment he met her, he was in love. The lines, "Until sleep leads us together by the hand
Unto forever or the sunrise."
is a personification because sleep can't really lead people. The tone of this poem is happiness expressed by the lines, "The one that feels so right underneath my hand,
The one which makes me who I am
Apart from your past memories."
I agree with Bre about how the line
"I crave you as you do chocolate."
is saying how much he craves her as she does with chocolate; that the poet has the same love for her as she does for chocolate. This poem is good because of all the comparison you make that shows how much you love her.
“I can not hold back my quenches,
I crave you as you do chocolate.
It is unavoidable, unexplainable, unforgettable,
Destiny if you will, I would, I am,
Or at least I want to be very badly.”
I like these lines the best because it tell us that the writer loves this person so much the he doesn’t even have a reason but loves her anyways. That he wants her as much as she craves chocolate. The tone of this poem is happy and wanting. Happy because he has found his love but wanting because he hope they’ll be together for the lines “We fit, or will, I promise.” Some figurative language in the poem is “My lips have been waiting to drink your river.” Because your lips can’t wait and it’s a metaphor that means he wants to kiss her. I agree with bre when she said “I think that this poem is talking about a guy finding his one true love. That he wishes to be with her for the rest of his life.” because the whole poem basically talks about how he wants her. This seem like a pretty good poem but I think you should find a new topic to write about.
That’s so cute she is your princess. To me that is my favorite part in the poem, when your call her your “Princess.” I find irony in that because my boyfriend calls me his princess. Anyway back to the poem, I want to start out with saying that I enjoyed reading this poem.
I thought the tone of this poem was very blissful, you seemed to be very happy with her presence. In the poem it seemed like you were explaining a moment. A moment that was very precious. When you said, “Hurry my Princess, the time has come. The moon shows midnight.” I had a visual of her meeting you at midnight at the beach to look at the moon. I don’t know why I mention beach, I think it’s because when I think of the moonlight and a romantic moment I think what better place then the beach.
My favorite line in this poem would have to be when you said, “I crave you as a do chocolate”. I like that line because its shows that that you are missing her. For example many people like chocolate and with out it they begin to crave and want it more and more, just like you are craving her presence and wants to see her more and more. Also that line is a simile because you are comparing her to something using the word as. I agree with anonymous when he/she basically says that the writer is trying to say that he is happy because he found his love, but wanting because he hopes they’ll be together for the lines, “We fit, or will, I promise.
Very good poem Mr. Donoso!
“The Moon Shows Midnight”
“I crave you as you do chocolate”
I think that this quote means that the author wants this woman as much as she would want chocolate. I like this poem because the author shows how much he really loves this woman and never wants to leave her side. The line that I think really show that the author wants to spend the rest of his life with this woman is “Until sleep leads us together by the hand unto forever or the sunrise”. Another meaning that I thought this quote had was the author wants to be with this woman until death do them part.
I think that the tone in this poem is happy because the author has finally found the one that he can spend the rest of his life with. The figurative language in this poem is personification, when the author said, “Close your eyes, my lips will tell you a story” he is giving his lips the ability to tell a story, which is a human trait.
I agree with Bre when she said this poem is about a guy finding his true love. The author want to spend the rest of his life with this woman, through-out this poem the author is talking about how much he loves this woman and that he wants to be with her till until sleep leads them together by the hand unto forever or the sunrise.
I agree with bre’s comment because I think that you’re also trying to find that one true love. Throughout out the poem you explain how his love should hurry to come and get him so that they can spend as much time tougher for the rest their lives as they can. Like you said in the poem “I crave you as you do chocolate” this is how I crave for the love of my life to come back to me ASAP. If other people read this poem they will also agree with us because there are those who are out there who love that “touch” that they receive from their love one that make chills shiver down their spine and hit their spot. I like the ending of the poem because I explains how the person knows that they have found the right person that the want to have an eternal life with and that the clock is ticking and their desires and calling for them
i agree with ryan when he says that the line...“The one that feels so right underneath my hand” refers to the feeling of love you get when you hold the one you love in your arms, how it makes you feel so loved and comforted and safe. i however dont agree with him when he says that you should have said somehting clearer. i believe that the way you said that line worked perfectly with the flow of the poem and also left something open for discution in the future. this is a great poem keep up the good writhing!
“The moon shows midnight”
“Hurry my princess, the time has come.
The moon shows midnight”
When the poet refers to his princess, I believe he is speaking of a female that is significant to him. It is a metaphor, just as a princess is of great importance to perhaps a country, this girl that the poet is speaking about holds the same significance to him. I’m guessing that when the poet says “The moon shows midnight” that he literally means that the moon, up in the sky, validates that it is 12 o’ clock, or midnight. This, as in many instances, is an important occurrence- when the clock hits midnight. Recalling the story of “Cinderella”, the princess had to leave the ball by midnight.
“Tonight it is you I dine.
My lips have been waiting to drink your river”
This particular stanza of the poem had an enormous amount of meaning to it. When the poet says he will “Dine his princess”, he is using another metaphor. I believe what he actually means is he will enjoy his princess tonight, as if she were a delicacy.
“I can not hold back my quenches,
I crave you as I do chocolate.”
These lines had a sizeable effect on me. Not only did it put the picture of chocolate in my mind, but I could taste the ambrosial taste, and essentially, I could feel the comparison that the poet makes. This comparison is obviously a simile, comparing the cravings that the poet feels towards his princess to the cravings that a person would have towards chocolate. Chocolate has a luscious taste to it, so the poet is saying that the same enjoyable feelings he has when one tastes chocolate are the same as those of which he feels towards his princess.
The tone of this poem is evidently, loving. In addition, towards the end when the poet says, “Close your eyes, my lips will tell you a story”, the tone seems a bit seductive. For example, the line that states, “But kind to you, I would touch you with the touch.” This line proves the tone to be affectionate.
I agree with Bre when she states that the poem is about a man finding his one true love. I infer that the man has already found his true love, and that he wishes to be with her until the end of time; the line, “Until sleep leads us together by the hand, until forever or the sunrise” proves that statement in the sense that the poet would like to be with his love for a great amount of time.
I can honestly express that I greatly enjoyed reading this poem. It is another poem that made me contemplate on the subject of love; not only falling in love, but finding it and taking delight in it to the fullest potential. This particular poem is one that makes you ponder on how incredible love may be. Like Bre said, it makes you think of a special person that lives very close to your heart.
“The one which makes me who I am” I think of this line and it reminds me of lovers. Because when there are two lovers they are each other’s other half. What this line implies is that she makes him complete. I like the way it’s phrased since it is not direct to saying that I need you or I can’t live without you, but in a simple, gentle way. I like how the tone of the poem is affectionate throughout the whole poem and it doesn’t try to confuse you. The same voice guides you through as you read it. I also enjoyed the fact that it is not another dramatic or loving poem, because these usually bore me. I noticed an alliteration right after the line of not being able to hold back his quenches, but I didn’t like how repeats the same idea. The simile was well placed comparing his want for her for woman’s desire for chocolate and the metaphor at the end gave the poem a nice ending. I agree with Ryan that it would be nice to see more writing on other areas because the love subject is getting repetitive. I also overall like the poem especially the last line how it ends with saying whether it is one day that they spend together or forever, something is better than nothing.
The moon shows midnight
“The moon shows midnight”
This line made me think of someone fighting time, like Cinderella for example, she had until midnight to go to the prom and see the prince and then return home or else her whole outfit will turn back to normal which is her cleaning clothes.
The tone of the poem is possessive because the guy wants the girl after midnight when everyone has left. It’s like when the guy and the girl finally meet in a place where there are no people like the balcony, and he is like “I liked you from the beginning” and she replies “I did too!”, then they kiss and live happily ever after.
“I crave you as you do chocolate”- simile, her desire for chocolate is strong as yours for her.
“My lips have been waiting to drink your river”- metaphor, you compared her saliva with a river (that’s a lot of saliva)
“My lips will tell you a story”- metaphor, the guy’s lips take the girl in an adventure.
I did like the poem because it shows that the guy likes the girl and the girl liked him as well but they were too shy about it until at last they were alone at night and he expressed his feelings to her, he waited for the right moment to tell her that and it was worth it, he got the girl.
I agree with Everton because since the guy got the girl, he never wants to let her go meaning that he really loves this girl.
“Hurry my Princess, the time has come. The moon shows midnight.” This line of the poem touched me because it is something I can relate to. Personally I interpreted this as a forbidden love that must be kept secret. Therefore when the poet states the “time has come, the moon shows midnight” I believe he is expressing the need of secrecy that night provides for him to meet with his lover. I believe his relationship with his princess is forbidden and that is something I can relate to. It made me feel like they really love each other and they shouldn't have to keep their love a secret. It made me think of my current situation and how I shouldn't have to be hiding anything. It made me feel a bit accompanied because I know that I'm not the only one with this feeling bottled up within.
I believe the tone of the poem is passionate and defiant. When the author tells his princess to hurry up, it shows a bit of defiant love. The rest of the poem shows compassion and passionate love that the poet wishes to express. “Tonight it is you I dine, my lips have been waiting to drink your river” this shows the passionate feelings that the author has towards his “princess” and what he wishes to do to her.
“Tonight it is you I dine” is a hyperbole because one cant actually dine someone else (unless, of course, your a cannibal). The poet expresses the way he is going to direct his full attention towards his lover and what he wishes to do to her. “I crave you as you do chocolate” is also a hyperbole and a simile, in which the poet describes the magnitude of his desire for her. Most people love chocolate and when they don't have it they crave for it. The poet compares the craving that one feels in the absence of chocolate to the craving he feels in the absence of his “princess”.
I love the poem because of what I said earlier, it is something I can relate to. I believe everyone has felt love towards someone that they shouldn't love. Everyone has felt love towards a certain person. A love that one can’t quite describe using words but I believe the poet truly expressed himself quite good.
I agree with what Bibi said on how the poem makes one ponder on how incredible love is. It makes you realize the measures that you would go through just to express your love to the single person u love most. I really like the poem.
The line “The one that feels so right underneath my hand, the one which makes me who I am” is my favorite in the poem. It tells how the poet believes this is the best person to be with “the one that feels so right underneath my hand” describes how the poet believes they’re the one that feel best when they are hand in hand. How they get a feeling that they’re “the one” just by the simple fact that when they’re holding hands it feels so right. “The one who makes me who I am” is describing how much of an impact this person has on the poet. How they provided nothing but positive into their life and shaped them into the person they are today and the poet is grateful for that. It’s a very nice line =]
The tone of the poem seems romantic and longing for their time to come to be together as one. The line “Hurry my Princess, the time has come. The moon shows midnight and everyone before us has already gone.” Shows how the poet has been waiting for midnight to come and now it is finally here and he doesn’t want to waste time and therefore tells his princess to hurry because the time has come. The line “No more mistakes, just simple connection. We fit, or will, I promise” shows the feeling for that longing to be with the person as well, because when the poet says “we fit, or will, I promise.” Shows how even if they aren’t completely compatible as one now with time and love and care they eventually will be walking as one individual with a strong love as the bond. The lines The one that feels so right underneath my hand, The one which makes me who I am” shows romance because they say how it feels so right with that person when they are hand in hand and the positive impact that person played on the poets life that made him into what he is today.
The lines "Until sleep leads us together by the hand unto forever or the sunrise" are an example of a personification because they gave sleep life. Sleep cannot literally lead you by the hand unto forever or the sunrise. =D The line “My lips have been waiting to drink your river” is an example of a metaphor because the poet is comparing their lips waiting to drink the others river which means to kiss the significant other (I hope lol) without using the words like or as. The line “I crave you as you do chocolate” is a simile because it is comparing how the poet wants her like he does chocolate using the word as.
I like this poem very much because of how it painted a picture and I feel as if I am watching a movie in my head. I can see a Disney Cinderella story when the clock strikes midnight and the princess must leave, only this time the prince leaves with her which is a nice change. =] I absolutely love the lines “Tonight it is you I dine. My lips have been waiting to drink your river. I can not hold back my quenches; I crave you as you do chocolate. It is unavoidable, unexplainable, unforgettable.” Because it really shows how bad the poet is longing to be with the other and how strong his feelings are towards her. Good job Mr. D =]
I agree with the comment left by bre when they say “I think that this poem is talking about a guy finding his one true love. That he wishes to be with her for the rest of his life.” This poem entirely talks about how in love the poet is with the other and how he is very much longing for her and him to be together. I disagree with the comment left by bryan phan when they say “the poet has the same love for her as she does for chocolate.” I don’t think you can EVER compare a person’s love for another to their love for chocolate that’s just wrong lol. I would be very offended if my loved on compared me to loving me as much as they do chocolate.

Comment on “The Moon Shows Midnight”
“Unto forever or the sunrise.”
This is the final line in the poem, “The Moon Shows Midnight.” It is saying that the poet and the women he loves can stay together past midnight and unto forever or they can end their fairytale (maybe just his fairytale) and get back to reality which in this case is the sunrise. The poem itself made me think about the story of Cinderella and how she only had until midnight to be free and then everything would go back to normal. The words “princess” and “midnight” encouraged this opinion upon me because they were say throughout the poem. I also think it is ironic that the poet or male in this story comes off as the maid with the fairy godparent instead of the women.
The tone I get from the poem is a tone where one is in love but is very anxious because he is short on time. Overall, the poem is a very “jumpy” toned but again in a happy way. I say this because every few lines the poet tries to convince or states that they are meant to be. For example, “We fit, or will, I promise.” In the line it is saying that the poet and the princess go well together, then he says that they will soon be great together (maybe refering to time and place) and that he will make it happen no matter what. Also, the very first line says, “Hurry my Princess, the time has come” which makes me, the reader, read the poem in a more hurried tone right from the beginning.
“Tonight it is you I dine.”
In this line the poet is using a metaphor. He is comparing his indulgence in the women to dining at maybe dinner. One thing that I would have liked is if you incorporated that it was like a breakfast, a lunch, or a dinner, but if it were me I would have said the dine was/is breakfast and dinner because then the reader would be able to say that the dine was like dinner because it was a romantic night and it was just the two of them and it is like breakfast because it has been so long since the last meal, meaning last love/lover. In your line it states, “tonight” which makes me assume that the poet is referring to a more lavish and refined meal.
One thing I have come to notice is that I do not like your poems generally but only at first. It is because I don’t understand them and what people don’t understand usually is seen by that person as a bad thing. It is a very common thing but as I force myself to analyze I become more and more willing to do it to the point where it doesn’t seem like an assignment and more of a hobby.
This poem included irony and personification so of course I was going to fall “head over heels” for it. Well, I would have if it had a witty pun that would cause a smile to appear upon my face. Once I caught on to the Cinderella background I began to really enjoy the poem and see it for what it really was which was a piece of art that was not something to fear but more like chocolate where it was something to indulge in.
Wendy said that the line, “The one that feels so right underneath my hand, the one which makes me who I am” meant, “the poet believes they’re the one that feel best when they are hand in hand.” I agree that what she said is true but I also think that it means his life and reason for being is her, the women/princess. One thing that makes me a little confused are the next two lines underneath this one which says, “Apart from your past memories. No more mistakes, just simple connection.” These lines may be saying that they were together but fell apart but now is the last chance and the poet is seizing the chance and is rushing because he wants her back and promises that it will better or it could be saying that she was hurt before and is reluctant and the poet is consoling her.
