I wish to be adored for all I've done and for what I am.
I have brought happiness to many lives,
I have placed lost smiles on, once, searching faces.
I have whispered kind words into abused ears,
I have given the joy of laughing,
I have also laughed to share success.
I have placed my hands gently upon wounded hearts,
I have broken through walls and shared the new found inner beauty
To the world and the beauty's master.
I have said all of the deserved words needed to feed esteem,
I have seen what many were too afraid to notice,
Too afraid to except or understand.
I have filled crushed spirits, lifted sunken hopes, and basked in glory.
I was there when no one else could take the time.
I was what they sought for when death was a temptation.
I have always been around, behind, and in front.
There is no denying what it is I have to offer.
I am not a man, nor am I a woman.
I can be captured in a moment, or lost for a lifetime.
I am the secret to life, the road to happiness,
And the eventual cause of manys' destruction.
Adore me cause I am great; hate me when you miss me.
I am yours to take, to lose, to hold, to adore- I am Love.

At first, Mr. D., I thought you had a little chip on your shoulder, but after I realized you were talking about love as if it were an individual, I understood and enjoyed the poem a lot. Like in the title of your poetry book, love, as well as life, have both the sweet and bitter tastes to it.
Mr. Donoso I wouuld probably have to say that this is my favorite poem i have read on your page. For this spacific poem I knew right off the bat that you were talking about love. I liked how stated the effects of love and some are good and some are bad. Love is really a great thing but you really have to be careful who you say it to and how you mean it. My favorite part was when you said,"I have broken through walls and shared the new found inner beauty because love is not about the apperence it's about the person you are inside.
This shows us all that love does to us. All those good things. And by love I'm sure you don't mean just a sexual kind of love, a love that one friend would give another. Love that would be shared within families. The love you give when you just care for them, nothing to do with just that one person. This poem has love talking as if they were a real person such as you and I. With the use of "I have.." through out the whole poem shows that they are pointing out what they have done, and not what they have not done.
At first when I was reading this I thought it was of a person who wanted to be adored for all that they have done. They go on listing the positives they have caused. But once it that they were not a man nor a woman, it got you to think, "who could this be?".
"I can be captured in a moment, or lost for a lifetime." is very true of today's world. Lots of people grow up, and go on with their lives not knowing love, but merely lust, a cheep fake love.
“I am the secret to life, the road to happiness”
When I was reading the poem I was pretty sad so when I read this line I cried because I desperately wanted whoever or whatever was “I”. It pained me because I feel like my whole life has been solely dedicated to searching for what can fill the void I feel inside me every day of my life. When I came upon this line it made me ask myself, “What could this man possibly be referring to.” I began to speculate different possibilities such as “Is I God? Could it be Mr.Donoso? Could he be that conceited or is it a poem to a woman who he is trying to convince that he is the best? Could it be about man being able to do great but could not save his love?” Truly I was puzzled but in a thought provoking and sincerely touched type of way. What made me pick this sentence to comment on was the fact that you used the word secret I felt that it was absolutely the best possible word to use because people go through life searching for something they know they are missing which gives reason to why people strive for money, practice religion, drink, do drugs, overeat, become promiscuous, etc…
The tone, in my opinion, is dramatic. For example: “I am yours to take, to lose, to hold, to adore- I am Love.” The fact that the speaker slowly but progressively gains speed in becoming more confident makes it feel like he is getting louder and gives it a feeling of a heroic speech is taking place. As the speech approaches the revealing of whom is “I” it reaches the last sentence where, I believe, the sentence structure is in such a way that makes you feel the intensity very strongly. Because of that feeling I get from “to take, to lose, to hold, to adore” I have concluded that the tone of the poem is dramatic.
The main figurative language that was used throughout the poem was personification which I very much enjoy in poems. Perfect example is in the first sentence which states, “I wish to be adored for all I've done and for what I am.” Love is an emotion and cannot “wish” anything. Wishing is a human characteristic. Also, the fact that you refer to love as “I” is stating that love is a person.
I enjoyed reading “I am”. I liked that when I finished reading the poem I felt love had a personality that can be kind and cruel which I found made me reflect upon love and the things it can do.
I want to comment on what Melanie said, “My favorite part was when you said, "I have broken through walls and shared the new found inner beauty” because love is not about the appearance it's about the person you are inside.” I agree with Melanie that love has to be based on whom that person is on the inside or it will be lust or a type of temporary "love". That is why relationships fail because it all based upon looks or minor things a person likes about another person. You don’t have to necessarily favor everything about another person because humans are far from faultless but if you can’t accept everything a person has to offer then your so-called love can’t last because you will only love them when conditions are good and smiling faces are shown or until you find someone prettier (and there will always be) which will both lead you on an endless cycle of failed attempts at capturing love.
